CNPS Announces Greater Access to Professional Liability Protection for all Canadian Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners

Effective January 5, 2015, all Canadian registered nurses and nurse practitioners will have access to services and individual professional liability protection with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS®).

Ottawa, January 1, 2015 - Since 1988, the Canadian Nurses Protective Society has provided expert legal advice, risk management and legal assistance to eligible registered nurses and nurse practitioners licensed to practise in Canada.  As a not-for-profit organization founded by territorial and provincial nursing colleges and associations, the CNPS is uniquely positioned to meet the individual professional liability protection needs of nurses while offering an economical and high-quality alternative to commercial insurance products.

To remain faithful to its founding principles and in response to a growing demand from Canadian nurses to gain access to CNPS services, the CNPS will offer previously non-eligible registered nurses and nurse practitioners the option to become beneficiaries of CNPS effective January 5, 2015 by way of individual registration.  As a result, registered nurses and nurse practitioners in British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario who are not currently members of a CNPS member organization will be able to register on an individual basis to become a beneficiary of CNPS services. Registration information will be made available on the CNPS website on or before January 5, 2015. For more information on how to become eligible for CNPS services, click here.

The CNPS provides legal support to Canadian nurses so that they may, in turn, fulfill their mission of providing the best possible care to their patients. To find out more about CNPS services, click here.
