CMPA/CNPS
joint statement The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) and
CNPS have issued a joint
statement to respond to questions from nurse practitioners and physicians
working in collaborative practice.
Collaborative Practice: Are nurses employees or self-employed? This document is intended to assist employers of nurses as well as nurses and nurse practitioners to determine what types of liability insurance are required for their particular practice model.
Professional Liability Protection in a Pandemic This publication is in response to members' questions about CNPS protection for persons temporarily licenced to practice nursing in a pandemic emergency.
CNPS Plus® CNPS sponsors a group insurance
plan which offers additional, optional coverages to all Registered Nurses
in Canada. Please see the CNPS Plus
page for more information.
Unlike insurance, CNPS is:
the Canadian nursing profession's own
legal support system
a non-profit society created, owned
and operated by nurses for nurses
specifically tailored to meet the professional
liability needs of nurses in all nursing roles
occurrence-based: the eligible nurses
protection extends from the date the incident occurred
